Frequently Asked Question
Ending a process
Last Updated 4 years ago
Sometimes it's necessary to end a process to run updates or get a machine to shutdown. First step is to open the Utilities folder (can be found in the Finder's Go Menu)
Next launch 'Activity Monitor'
It helps to click the Process Name column as there will be hundreds of processes running in the background (this is normal). Select the one you want to kill and click the octagonal X button.
All done.. that process should terminate (some processes cannot/should not be terminated - please be cautious).
