Frequently Asked Question

How do I unblock YouTube videos?
Last Updated 3 years ago

By default, YouTube is set to restrictive mode while using SD59 networks.  Teachers have the ability to bypass these restrictions and unblock both specific videos and entire channels for users that are signed in to Peacenet.

To do this, teachers must be logged in to their Peacenet account.  Then, when they attempt to access a blocked video, an Allow button will appear underneath the video player that will grant access to anyone else that is logged in to Peacenet.

Important! Please exercise good judgement when allowing videos.  Allowing a video makes it accessible to the entire district, which includes students of all ages, not just the age groups at your school.

Instructions

  1. Access the video or channel you would like to unblock on YouTube.

  2. Click the Sign In button in the top right corner of the page.

If you don't see the Sign in button, you may already be logged in with another Google account. If this is the case, sign out of this account first.

  3. On the Google sign in page, enter your Peacenet e-mail address.  Your Peacenet e-mail address matches your SD59 e-mail address, except that the domain is peacenet.sd59.bc.ca, not sd59.bc.ca.

    SD59 e-mail address: jteacher@sd59.bc.ca
    Peacenet e-mail address: jteacher@peacenet.sd59.bc.ca

  4. If entered correctly, it should take you to the SD59 branded federated login page.  Enter your usual SD59 credentials here.

  5. When signed in, return to the video or channel you would like to unblock.  If there is a block in place, you should see a note stating that it is not approved for peacenet.sd59.bc.ca, and an Allow button should be shown.

  6. Click the Allow button to grant access to the video or channel.
